This semester is the first time I have had a class of non-Thai students. Although six students are a good number for an ideal language classroom, having six "foreigners" for me is another thing!!
Speaking is always my worst skill.. due to having Thai influnce on pronunciation, false intonation, and so forth. I've never been in any English-speaking countries. Therefore, there is a very small chance for me to use language.. I know I need to do something with that, actually~
As for reading and writing, I'm quite sure that my knowledge of English grammar is good to a certain extent. That's why I've never had any problems teaching English to Thai students. As long as I can use my L1 as a tool, everything is fine!!
However, I'm the only Thai in this class.. and my L1 is useless!! The students expected a native speaker to be their teacher, not a non-native one. Frankly speaking, it has been very stressful!!! I can use only 60% of my abilities... It's always hard for me to explain grammar points and vocabulary. That makes me feel worse!!
Well, that's not my students' false, but mine. I've tried my best being their good teacher; however, I don't know what they are thinking about me at the end of the day...
All I've learned is I still have room to improve!!
